Tim O’Brien Homes Wins 2020 Department of Energy Housing Innovation Award
Tim O’Brien Homes earned a 2020 Housing Innovation Award from The U.S. Department of Energy for the Arbordale floor plan in New Berlin. This is the third consecutive award for the builder who was named in the Custom Spec category this year. Custom Spec recognizes individual homes that will be sold on speculations rather than pre-ordered by a buyer.
The Housing Innovation Awards are part of the DOE Zero Energy Ready Home program which recognizes home builders for their leadership in increasing energy efficiency and improving indoor air quality. National experts from across the building industry review all applications and judge them based on a number of categories from energy performance metrics, land development, design, quality construction, sales and marketing, consumer education and business metrics.
Tim O’Brien Homes’ winning home is a split-bedroom floor plan with an open-concept design. A large, angled kitchen island serves as a focal point for the living space and is visible from the foyer. An owner’s suite sits in the back corner behind the two-car garage with two additional bedrooms on the opposite side.
This and all homes from Tim O’Brien prioritize energy efficiency by using the latest building science to reach an average Home Energy Rating Score of 45. Tim O’Brien Homes is in the top one percent of builders in the country as a DOE Zero Energy Ready Home Partner.
